The COMMANDER badge and rank is earned by those who complete UNIT 6 training and are able to defend against the lie that

a "real man" follows no one.

We live in a culture that values individualism and personal autonomy above nearly everything else. Being a trendsetter, unique and unlike everyone else, is the highest of virtues. The GODLY MAN is trained to recognize the ways that these false values invade our attitudes towards accountability and receiving correction from others.

In military ranking there is no one above the COMMANDER. But this is not so in the "Lord's Army". The GODLY MAN understands that no one should ever be without someone above them who has the authority and the ability to keep them accountable. Yes, Christ is our ultimate head, but the GODLY MAN recognizes that having an older brother who has permission to ask the difficult questions is essential to godliness.

UNIT 6 trains young men to understand that who they associate with, and most importantly who they consider their closest friends, can have lifelong impact for the better or for the worse.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

And so, the GODLY MAN is extremely careful about who he is friends with. Friends who do not love God will lead one away from Him. The GODLY MAN knows that one day he will be a leader, and in humility follows the example of older men who are living and loving God.
